One of Charlie Sheen’s “Goddesses” Appears in Court on DUI Charge

March 15, 2011 - Bree Olson, one of Charlie Sheen’s girlfriends, appeared in Court in Fort Wayne, Indiana last Tuesday regarding her DUI arrest last month. No plea was entered by Olson’s lawyer and the judge set a date of April 26th to select a jury, while setting aside two days for a potential trial to be held on June 8th and June 9th.

Olson was approached by Fort Wayne Police Department at 11:20 PM on Thursday, February 3, 2011 after allegedly crashing her black Lexus. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and blew a 0.19 percent. She was held in the Allen County Sheriff detention center until 3:00 PM the following day.

Blackberry Pulls Applications that Notify Users of Local DUI Checkpoints

March 24, 2011 - Four Senators from Nevada, New York, New Jersey and New Mexico sent a letter Tuesday asking Google, Apple and Blackberry to either disable or discontinue selling downloadable applications that allow Blackberry devices, iPhone & iPad, and Android devices to identify locations of local police DUI checkpoints.  The senators wrote to these companies: “we know that your companies share our desire to end the scourge of drunk driving, and we therefore would ask you to remove these applications from your store unless they are altered to remove the DUI/DWI checkpoint functionality.”

Research in Motion (RIM), maker of Blackberry, has agreed to pull all downloadable applications in its operating systems that identify local DUI checkpoints from its online store.  The senators were very pleased by RIM’s prompt response and they hope Apple and Google follow suit.
